First Person View (FPV) is an adventurous and immersive section of UAS operations which includes two main sports ;

Drone Racing

Drone Freestyle

The drones are controlled manually, otherwise known as "ATTI" or "ACRO" mode , which removes all safety features such as GPS lock and obstacle avoidance sensors so leaving the operator to have a truly limitless flight. However this mode of flying, requires a lot of skill and many hours of practice on a simulator. Once confident, the operator will be able to perform aerobatics, hit gaps and produce exhilirating performances.

The drones are typically sub 250g and are mini/micro aircraft which are referred to as "cine whoops". They can be pre-made or made from kits. Drone racing is normally conducted indoors whereas freestyle is taken outside on derelict grounds with plenty of obstacles and gaps to fly through.

The advantage of flying Manual is that the drone no longer requires a GPS lock so when this signal is missing , whilst flying indoors, for instance, its is safe to say , the drone can still operate manually with a competent FPV pilot. We also love to see FPV performances on our socials.

Here at Skyshoot , we have two aircraft capable of FPV operations and have started practice in Manual mode, both on the simulator and with our Avata2 Aircraft.

Above are some examples of FPV aircraft. The distinctive difference from conventional UAS are that they have prop guards and they can weigh as little as 100grams. They are super agile and can produce some stunning footage

Above is a quick 4 minute random video showing the guy flying in manual mode through a derelict building. You can see the skill required to hit those gaps !
