First Person View (FPV) is an adventurous and immersive part of UAS operations which includes two main activities;

Drone Racing

Drone Freestyle

The drones are controlled manually, otherwise known as "ATTI" or "ACRO" mode , which removes all the safety features such as GPS lock and obstacle avoidance, and so leaving the operator with a truly limitless and exhilarating flight.

However this mode of flying, requires a lot of skill and many hours of practice on a simulator. Once confident, the operator will be able to perform aerobatics, hit gaps and produce stunning performances.

The drones are typically sub 250g and are a mini/micro aircraft which are referred to as "cine-whoops". They can be pre-made or made from kits.

Drone racing is normally conducted indoors whereas freestyle is mainly taken outside on derelict grounds and property, with plenty of obstacles and gaps to fly through.

The advantage of flying Manual is that the drone no longer requires a GPS lock so when this signal is missing , whilst flying indoors, for instance, it is safe to say , the drone can still operate manually with a competent FPV pilot. FPV is sometime used when creating property tours inside, as a GPS signal is seldom required for this operation. We also love to see FPV performances on our socials and share these occasionally with our audience.

Skyshoot has two aircraft capable of FPV operations and we continue to practice in Manual mode, both on the simulator and with our Avata & Neo Aircraft.

Above are some examples of FPV aircraft. The distinctive difference from conventional UAS are that they have prop guards and they can weigh as little as 100grams. They are super agile and can produce some stunning footage

Above, are two videos. The top one is our very first flight in manual mode with our Avata 2 Aircraft. The below one is a 4 minute flight by a professional FPV pilot demonstrating the exciting  moves and agility of FPV flying .
